The cache memory in applications is a folder that contains non-executable but useful files for application processing, the longer the application is used, the more cache memory it will store.

Application cache memory takes up space, can affect the performance and operation of applications if it accumulates, slows down the speed of your mobile or PC processor and it is always advisable to delete these files to avoid problems with applications or damage to your mobile or PC hardware.

What happens when a device’s cache is cleared?

Cache memory is a group of small files that, in large quantities, generate a lot of weight for the application, but are not executable files for the user (they cannot be seen, heard or modified).

When we delete these files, we improve the functioning of applications, our mobile runs programs and applications efficiently and quickly, in addition to extending the life of our mobile, we avoid long-term problems with the applications we use most frequently.

How can I clear an application cache on a mobile phone or PC?

There are several ways to clear app cache, one of them is by going to “settings” and then “apps”, where we will see the list of apps we have installed, and when we click on them we will see their data appear. Another way is to hold down the app icon and access its information.

Among the data is “storage” and we’ll see the size of the app, the size of the user data and the size of the cache, the latter is the one we need to delete and we’ll do it by selecting the “delete cache” or “clear cache” option, depending on the device and Android version.

It is very important to remember that the goal is to delete cache memory that we will not need later, therefore we must be very careful with the personal data of the app (account information, chats, level reached in a game), make sure that what you delete is cache memory and not user data.

If you are clearing the cache on a PC, open Chrome and click on the “More” option in the top right corner, go to “More tools” and then select “Clear browsing data”. You will be given the option to delete these files according to time periods, to delete everything select all periods that appear.

Select the option “Cookies and other site data” as well as “Cached images and files” and then “Clear data”. This will improve the processing of your PC.

Why can’t some applications clear their cache?

Some applications do not allow you to clear the cache, even though it is an easy procedure and does not compromise important application files. This may be because the app has a problem (cache build-up, virus, lack of update) and the solution to this problem may be to format your mobile phone.

What other options are there for deleting unwanted files from an app?

This file cleaning can be done manually or by using a junk file cleaner app, not all of them work for all versions of Android, but there are versions that include their own file cleaner, which is updated according to the needs of the mobile phone.

As for manual file cleaning, this is done by going to “File manager/file manager” and looking for folders called “Thumbnails”, which contain duplicate files of photos from our gallery or low-definition video captures, which will not be useful, and deleting them improves mobile phone performance.

Delete temporary files

Temporary files take up storage space and range from cache, search history to folders with junk files. To delete unwanted files, go to the file manager and look for folders named “Thumbnails” or “Thumbs” and delete them.

These folders contain large amounts of duplicate files and junk files. History files can be deleted by going to Chrome and clearing history and cookies. It is recommended to delete all these temporary files on a monthly basis or when apps crash repeatedly.
