As video chat becomes an essential software for live chat, Facebook has also prepared for the release of the new video chat software. Facebook has extended the video calling service from its existing Facebook Messenger to a video chat service called Messenger Rooms. Messenger rooms allow up to 50 people to join the video call.

This app is the best alternative to Zoom which has had security issues recently. Messenger Room lets you invite up to 50 people to join the video call. Facebook has named its group video call “room” and you can start the room from Messenger and Facebook. You can choose to keep the call open to all or to prevent uninvited people from joining the video call. In this article, we explain how to create a Messenger room using Facebook on your Windows desktop.

Launch Facebook.com.

Click the plus sign under the Rooms section at the top of News Feed to create a room.

When creating a room, you have a few options to set a status for a room, schedule the time, invite people, and restrict people.

Click Room Activity to designate the status or description of the room. You can designate your own status by clicking the New button or select one from the available options like Hang Out, Join Me, Bored at Home or Coffee chat.

How to video chat with up to 50 people using Facebook Messenger

Click on the “Who is invited?” option. to let your friends join the room. Under “Who is invited?” header, you will have two options to select all your friends on Facebook or Invite specific friends to join the room. Choose the appropriate option and click the Invite Friends button.

Click on the “Create your room” option to schedule the opening time of the room. Set the start date and time to create a schedule. When done, click the Save button.

Once all the parameters have been defined, click on Create a room at the bottom of the window.

A pop-up window appears with the option Invite, Share. Editing and end room. It also gives you the option to copy the link in order to invite anyone to join the room. Copy and share the link with others to let them join your room.

  • Click the Join button to begin and enter your room.
  • In the new window, click the “Join as” button to enter the room. Your friends will only be able to join the room once you have entered it.

Once you join the room, you will have the option to share your screen, see the participants in the call, mute or unmute the video settings, change the microphone settings to off or on, and put end the call. Choose the appropriate options at the bottom of the screen.

  • To block people from joining the call, go to the “View call participants” icon at the bottom of the screen.
  • A new window appears. Toggle the Lock Room field to On to prevent others from joining your video call.
  • To invite other friends to join the room, copy the link provided at the bottom of the window and send it to your friends.
  • To leave the room, click the End Room icon at the bottom of the screen.

You can also create a room using the Facebook mobile app and Messenger.
