Google Chrome the web browser uses a process for each tab by default. If you open Windows Task Manager, you will be able to see several Google Chrome processes. Internet Explorer also follows this pattern. The idea behind this is that if one of your tabs crashes, it won’t crash the entire browser, as each tab will have its process running. Only this tab will crash.
If you feel the need to save resources on your Windows 10 machine, you can configure Chrome to use a single process for all tabs on a website.
Chrome supports a process model, which groups all instances of the same website into the same process, while processes from different sites are isolated from each other. The advantage of using this pattern is that since this pattern creates fewer concurrent processes than the default pattern, the memory overhead will be reduced. This will result in saving some of your computer’s resources.
The little price you will have to pay is that if one tab on a website crashes for some reason, all other tabs on the same website will crash. The browser or open tabs of other websites will not crash, however.
This can lead to another problem sometimes. This can lead to heavy rendering processes:
Sites like google.com host a wide variety of applications that can be opened simultaneously in the browser, all of which would be rendered in the same process. Thus, resource conflicts and failures of these applications could affect many tabs, making the browser less responsive. Unfortunately, it is difficult to identify site boundaries at finer granularity than the registered domain name without breaking backwards compatibility.
To use this template, users must specify a –process per site command line switch when starting Chromium. This creates fewer render processes, trading some robustness for reduced memory overhead. This model is based on the origin of the content and not on the relationships between the tabs.

Make Chrome Use Less Memory
So if you want to save memory while using Chrome and are willing to make those small sacrifices, you can go ahead and configure Chrome to run, which is called Process mode -per-site. To do this, right-click on the Chrome shortcut and select Properties. Join the –process per site switch to the target URL you see in the box. You can also add it to Chrome’s main executable in its program folder. So the path will now look like this, in my case:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --process-per-site
Click Apply and Exit.
